Flights to Dubai

Dubai is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, a coastal metropolis of skyscrapers, malls and desert excursions. Dubai International (DXB) is only about 5 km from the centre and has two Metro Red Line stations, while Al Maktoum International (DWC) lies roughly 37 km to the southwest. Summers are extremely hot, so most visitors travel in the cooler months.

Tips for visiting Dubai

  • The Dubai Metro accepts only Nol cards for fares, not cash or bank cards, so buy or top up a card at a station machine.
  • Metro fares are zone-based: AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 to a neighbouring zone and AED 7.50 across three or more zones, on a silver Nol card.
  • During Ramadan, eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours is prohibited, though hotels and private venues keep designated areas.
  • Dubai International has Metro stations at Terminals 1 and 3, so confirm your terminal before you board.
  • The Dubai Shopping Festival runs for a month in January, which is also one of the cooler times of year.
